In support of this year's theme, "SDR 2.0 - Entering the Mainstream," the SDR Forum is soliciting abstracts and proposals in these areas:

Papers - Papers should provide a perspective of the current state of the art in reconfigurable radio technology, future trends, technical innovation or analysis on the opportunities and constraints for broad practical applications. Paper abstracts must include an abstract, author information, topic area, with sufficient information to validate the quality and technical depth of the paper. Suggested paper topics include the following:
  • Apertures and Antennas
  • RF Circuits, Devices, and Subsystems
  • Baseband Signal Processing (DSP, FPGA, SoC)
  • Software and Middleware
  • Firmware and other IP
  • Development Tools
  • Waveforms
  • Radio Systems
  • Cognitive Radio Technology
  • Cognitive Radio Networking
  • SDR in Space and Aviation
  • SDR in Public Safety
  • SDR in Telematics and ITS
  • SDR in Commercial Wireless
  • SDR in Defense Applications
  • Education on SDR
  • Regulatory Consideration
  • SDR and CR Business Models
Tutorials and Workshops -  Tutorials and workshops are quarter, half day or full day sessions examining specific topics in more detail. Proposals for tutorials and workshops should include a title, brief outline of the tutorial or workshop, short biography of the session leader and a list of all planned speakers.

Demonstrations - Demonstrations will run in parallel tracks with the regular paper sessions and allow our member companies to demonstrate advanced and innovative technologies relevant to software defined and cognitive radio systems.  Each demo session will be scheduled for 45 minutes which must include set-up, presentation, demonstration, and teardown. Note that this is different from paper presentations in that written material is optional. Written material delivered in advance of the Presentation Due Date will be included in the conference proceedings. Proposals for demonstrations should include a title, speaker name, company affiliation, and an abstract sufficiently describing what technology will be demonstrated that the technical significance of the demo can be determined.

Panel Sessions -  Panels present topics for discussion such as cutting-edge research and design, analyses of hot or emerging trends, opinions on controversial issues, reports by practitioners and contrasting viewpoints from experts in complementary professional areas. The proposals for panels should include a title for the panel, a brief outline of the panel discussion topics, panel participants, and panel moderator along with their bios.

New for SDR 08 – Invited Tracks -  For this year’s conference, the SDR Forum is inviting partner organizations and other important groups within the advanced wireless community to host “invited tracks” as a part of the SDR ‘08 program. These tracks will explore technical and business aspects in a particular subject area relevant to the SDR Forum’s members and guests. The Forum is pleased to announce two invited tracks at this time, with more expected in the near future:

SDR Multimode Multiband Base Stations – this track will include presentations from base station vendors, network operators, and tower providers. For more information on this invited track, please contact Aditya Kaul.

Open Source Software and Hardware in Software Radio – this track will provide an overview the various open source projects supporting the SDR community. For more information on this invited track, please contact Matt Ettus.

OMG Software Based Communications – this track will present topics from the Object Management Group relevant in the design and development of advanced radio systems. For more information please contact Kevin Richardson or Mark Scoville.
