The SDR Forum announced today the winners of their annual Achievement Awards during SDR´09 Technical Conference and Product Exposition, the premier event for the reconfigurable radio community, in Washington, D.C. Dr. Bruce Fette of DARPA won the President´s Award, The Harris Unity XG-100 earned Technology of the Year and Eric Nicollet of Thales took home the International Achievement Award. A special award was also given to Dr. John Glossner for chairing the Conference as well.

SDR Forum Announces Workshop Focused on Spectrum Sharing In TV White Space

The SDR Forum announced today a call for presentation submissions for its workshop “Spectrum Sharing by TV Band Devices.” The workshop will be held June 16 in Dearborn, Michigan in conjunction with The SDR Forum’s 63rd General Meeting. The FCC recently approved the use of TV Band Devices (TVBDs) that will operate on an unlicensed basis in unoccupied TV channels. Multiple industry organizations and standards bodies are developing systems and technical standards intended for use in this spectrum. There is no regulatory constraint on the interference TVBDs may cause each other.

The group, “Test Guidelines and Requirements for Secondary Spectrum Access of Unused TV Spectrum,” will develop a set of use cases and test requirements for the use of cognitive radio techniques to allow unlicensed secondary spectrum access for unused TV bands.
